Site Construction Manager – Petrol Station Construction

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Site Construction Manager with a strong background in petrol station construction and hands-on knowledge of petroleum equipment installation. This is a pivotal role overseeing & hands on-site delivery of retail & commercial fuel infrastructure projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You will be hands on & manage day-to-day site operations, coordinate subcontractors, monitor progress against programme, and ensure compliance with all petroleum handling regulations and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage construction activities for petrol station builds and upgrades
  • Be hands on & oversee installation of petroleum equipment, tanks, dispensers, pipework, and associated infrastructure
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, and suppliers
  • Ensure all work is delivered safely in accordance with HSSE requirements and hazardous area standards
  • Maintain site documentation, progress reports, quality checks, and compliance records
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, clients, and regulatory bodies
  • Identify risks, troubleshoot site issues, and maintain project timelines
  • Ensure environmental protection protocols are adhered to on all sites

About You

You will be confident running complex fuel construction sites and have a solid understanding of how petrol stations are built from the ground up, including underground tanks, pipework, pump bases, kiosks, and forecourt systems.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager / Construction Manager on petrol station or hazardous fuel infrastructure projects
  • Strong hands-on experience with petroleum equipment installation (tanks, dispensers, pipework, separators, venting, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of hazardous area regulations, HSNO, and industry safety requirements
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and compliance documents
  • Competent with site reporting, scheduling, and contractor management
  • Full NZ driver’s licence (or country-specific equivalent)

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Relevant trade background (e.g., mechanical, civil, petroleum equipment technician)
  • Certifications related to hazardous areas, petroleum handling, or permit systems
  • Experience working with fuel suppliers (Z, BP, Mobil, Gull, etc.)
